Ethics Interview Questions & Possible Sequence
Version 3 – February 6, 2009 - to be shared with Company Leaders |
Pre
Interview - Are there any current or recent ethics issues known in
the community, the press, etc. regarding the company/organization?
Prepare to discuss at the interview.
What
does the phrase “Ethics in Business” mean to you?
What
industry/professional, etc. organizations does your company belong
to and what are their Business Ethics positions?
How
does your company address business ethics with your employees?
What federal or state agencies regulate your type of business and do you make periodic reports?
If
Business Ethics is not addressed formally, what exists informally?
(Formally means written position statement, training programs, new hire interview questions)
If
Business Ethics is addressed formally, what documentation exists &
how is it handled?
How
are ethical issues with customers handled? (not just customer
complaints)
What
kind of ethical actions exist in other companies or with competitors
you deal with?
Are
there unethical behaviors that give other companies a competitive
advantage and if so how are you affected?
What example of an ethical dilemma or ‘gray area’ have you faced in your business?
If a
service organization like Rotary were to make “Ethics in
Business” presentations or training programs or Ethics
Coaching available to your company as a community service, how
helpful would this service be to you and your company?
(Quick,
right now, write down any missing questions you can think of and
let’s discuss them during the interview.)
Thank you for your cooperation and assistance with the Garland Rotary Business Ethics Audit.
